Project Statistics
Overall Project statistics:
- 16 acres of new Park space including: Kiener Plaza, Luther Ely Smith Square, Washington avenue, North Gateway and the South Gateway surrounding the existing maintenance Facility
- Over 25 acres of landscape improvements on the Arch Grounds
- At least 50 acres of added National Park land on the East Bank
- Over 9,000 native Missouri and Illinois trees to be planted
- Over 5 miles of fully ADA accessible pedestrian pathways creating universal access across the project area.
- 3.5 miles of new ADA accessible paths, including pathways through the previously inaccessible landscape around the reflecting ponds.
- Over 9 acres of new or enlivened community oriented event/open spaces including:
- Kiener Plaza Lawn
- Luther Ely Smith Square and Plaza
- North Gateway Lawn
- Central Riverfront
- East Bank Pavilion
East Bank Park:
- 100,000 SF pavilion area with shade canopy with animated fountain elements centered on the Gateway Geyser
- 1 Mile long aerial tram ride from the South end of the Arch grounds to the East Bank’s Malcolm W Martin Memorial Park. The aerial tram cabins will be customized for the CityArchRiver project and special cabins will include glass floors for exciting views.
Riverfront:
- Leonor K. Sullivan Blvd and Riverfront will be elevated above routine flood events and will be universally accessible for pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles.
- 1.5 miles of riverfront between Biddle Street and Chouteau Avenue
will become a promenade of activity and fun.
- New riverfront connects to existing bicycle trail networks at Biddle and Chouteau
The Arch Grounds:
The Museum
- 50,000 SF of new museum and event space with a new glass façade entry opening facing Luther Ely Smith Square, bringing daylight underground and enhancing the terminus of the Gateway mall.
- Over 100,000 SF of existing Museum space will be renovated and include new exhibit space and increased public educational space.
The North Gateway
- Replace parking garage the size of 3 football fields (4 acres) with a new community-oriented landscape.
- 1.5 acre multi-use lawn
- 3/4 mile long “Explorers’ Trail” (pedestrian and bicycle accessible)
- 1/2 acre Lewis and Clark Explorers’ Garden
- 100 yard long raised walkway above Explorers’ Garden with views of Eads Bridge, riverfront and Mississippi River
- Washington Avenue entry plaza
West Gateway:
Luther Ely Smith Square
- Between Chestnut and Market, a new park over I-70, completing the Arch Grounds Connection to the Old Courthouse.
- Conversion of 6 blocks of northbound Memorial Drive into park land
- 3.5 acres of new landscape and plaza
The Old Courthouse
- New exhibits and gallery renovations
- Full ADA access for first and second floor galleries and public spaces
Kiener Plaza
- 9,000 SF interactive water feature and Children’s Play area
- 32’ diameter Carousel
- 6,500 SF Concession & Performance buildings
