Inspired by the 10 design goals set forth in The City+The Arch+The River 2015 Competition, the CityArchRiver 2015 initiative is truly a project of national significance. The project to better weave the Gateway Arch and Jefferson National Expansion Memorial into the fabric of St. Louis is intended to serve as a model for generations to come and for other areas struggling with similar issues of making cities more livable and more welcoming to visitors. Since winning the competition in September 2010, the design team led by Michael Van Valkenburgh and Associates (MVVA) has worked closely with the CityArchRiver 2015 Foundation, the National Park Service, City of St. Louis, the Missouri and Illinois Departments of Transportation, Great Rivers Greenway, Gateway Mall Conservancy, Metro East Park and Recreation District, and several constituent groups on both sides of the river, to begin moving the project from an idea to a reality.

All parties involved share an incredible determination to make this a project that brings increased vitality to the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, St. Louis, the Illinois riverbank area and the region.

The CityArchRiver project is currently in the schematic design, compliance and permitting stages.
